ZFGC Game Servers

I've actually thought about this before, never brought it up though.

I really think this would be a neat idea.

ZFGC's own personal game servers, for multiplayer games such as Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, Garry's Mod, etc. either hosted on someones computer (though they'd need a powerful server computer) or perhaps purchase a few games servers.

I know I'd use them and so would other I'm sure.

What do you all think? We could host tournaments and other events on them too.

With the way the server hits downtime now, would this really be safe or sustainable?

Well we wouldn't be using the sites server, as I don't even think that's possible, but all over the internet there are sites where you can purchase game servers and they really aren't all that expensive last time I checked, most are about $1/slot.

Doesn't mean that we cannot find other daemons and use those instead of this server. Dedicated Servers cannot be hosted on web servers, anyways.. they're generally separate(don't know why you'd run both a game server and a web server on one box, anyways).

We cant use the sites server anyway, options needed to run that kind of stuff wont work. But perhaps user sponsored servers wouldn't be too shabby of an idea. For CS and stuff.. Diablo games would be fun too(*HINT* *HINT*). There's quake3 as well... (Max, CPP, Kirby, Mammo and Metal played a lot).

Definitely an idea and we're discussing ideas on WF right now regarding things to populate the server again >.> that might be a good way to do it!

Hum, well I have an moderate internet speed at times and an old desktop I can rig up into a server. So I'm in.

Well it depends on the specs really.

I'm going to assume by "old" it should hold up to about 7 slots or so on a dedicated server, so that is a good start in this case :P Then maybe ZFGC can raise up some money for these other servers.
