So anyway; I've decided as of the day before yesterday that I want to make a couple of westernized bentou boxes for Jami and myself when I go down to see her again.

Basically, a bentou box is a lunch that japanese kids have in school, but it's !@#$% amazing O_O;;

PICS:

^Theres an example of a bento box

They're very artistically laid out and organized. Centerpieces are Onigiri, which are basically rice balls with seafood or something else mixed in with the rice. They're served dry with soy sauce.

^Onigiri

My bentou is going to be shrimp themed, however for western elements I'm adding simple things like pringles and pepperoni sticks. I was going to go with ham for the secondary, but I switched that to turkey; and I'm going to do cream cheese rollups with the turkey.

With the shrimp, I'm going to deepfry some, and grill the others. Deepfried ones will be both battered, and some with bacon strips wrapped around them (yumm)...

Heres my shopping list so far-

Bento-
-------------------------
Rice balls (Jasmine Rice)
Nori
Smoked Turkey
Pepperoni
Jumbo Shrimp
Mini Shrimp
Eggs
Flour
Salt
Green Onions
Cheddar Cheese Pringles
Sour Cream and Onion Pringles
Peanut Oil
Canned Tuna in Water
Scallops (optional)
Bacon Strips
Divider Cups
Cream Cheese
Carrots
Strawberries
Cabbage
Wonton Wraps

Anyone have any suggestions?

I'll take pics once I have this finished; it should be an all day project when I start it D:

I'm hoping pretty well lol... The issue is laying it out... I don't have a box yet :p

I know how I'm going to do the Onigiri though... For Jami's it's going to be shaped in the standard triangle, and I'm going to write her name out in the nori and tack it on to the top :p

In the center I may put soy sauce, or actually I may grill the soy sauce onto the top of the onigiri. It's going to rock :p

EDIT: I've updated my shopping list; I forgot to add the stuff for the spring rolls :P

Compared to what some people I know at school eat, that's a feast. Seriously, all that for lunch? Damn, I want to go to Japan.

My only advice or whatever is to make sure to cut the hotdog-looking thing to look like an octopus because that is a statement of love!
