In the age of long loading times and 3D graphics, it's hard to really just lay back and play a simple and fun game.  Those days are over thanks to:

GridBlast

.:Game Play:.

GridBlast plays like nothing you have ever played before, it uses the WASD keys to control bombs that explode in beautiful particle effects and the space bar to clear the screen with a giant blast. Move a missile shooter with the mouse and shoot with the left mouse button. There are tons of ways to play the game. The game's graphics are very modern and clean but stay true to their old-school looks. The music will keep you enchanted for hours on end, as the game can be played for two minutes or two hours. This game never ends, more and more enemy's come with increasing speed and variety, until you stop. Millions of possibilities, you can play the game only using the missile shooter, or not at all. Will you upgrade your missiles to heat seeking and super speed? It's all up to you. Compete for the highest score in the world by sending your high score at the end of a playing session.

I like the game, it's a funny concept, however, the game is too... dunno if boring is the proper word for it...
Congratulations for finishing it :)
I would give it a 4/5 considering the type of game ;)

Yeh I know what you mean, it dosen't have much action to it does it? it gets slightly repetative. But all power to Retro for completing it! Its a great first game.

Looks like Helios has taken the top spot, good job, I'll wait a bit longer until I try :P  Anyways I would really like to hear some reviews, how did you like this game and what didn't you like?

Also Ricky, you say it's boring can I ask what makes it that way?  I am always looking to improve.

Ah, I finally made myself playing it...

I like how you made improvement on the game play (senseless button-smashing has been replaced with patient waiting for the arrow to come and you got to have an eye on everywhere) and the graphics (wicked effects)!

Good job, really challenging. :)

Sorry, just saw that now, I considering I was gonna reply, I decided to download the new version ^^
So, please don't take my critics in a bad way n_n I don't really have an idea on how to describe what makes this game a bit boring...
Maybe it's the slow action, and the slow rhythm that the game takes. The music is good, combines with the game, but, it also combines with the slow rhythm of the game, contributing for it.
Maybe I'm just a guy who just wants action, and the kind of game where there's always 100% action, dunno, but I don't think so, I don't really like action-based games. Still, I think the game's rhythm is too slow...
Hope you got what I meant n_n (I'm so sleepy, prolly there's some error or none at all >_>)

Interesting, I do know it can be a little slow at the start but once you get a little farther, it gets quite fast and hectic.  Thanks for the in depth reply though, perhaps I will make a GridBlast Extreme one day?

I was thinking of holding a competition for MODing, how many of you think they could change the graphics to say a Zelda game, or Space Invaders or perhaps a creation of your own?  If a few people wanted to I could probably come up with a few prizes ;)

Yea, I know that, but, the start is slow, and so, it takes some time to get to the faster speeds :P

Sounds a cool idea, if you're really gonna do it, I may enter :D

Something is wrong, I couldn't play it. When the title screen appeared, there was an error message "ERROR in action number 1 of draw event for object blurer: Trying to use non-existing surface."

Ah very interesting, could you please post your current OS and graphics card's names?  This will help me understand why the problem occurs, so I can hopefully fix it ASAP.

Thanks,

I use Windows XP and my graphics card is "RAGE 128 PRO AGP 4X TMDS" (OBS: I'm not sure if that's what you want to know, though).

It should be a problem in my PC, since the others could play it and I couldn't; but the error message was a typical GM error message, not Windows message like "This computer's graphics card is too old for running this executable" (once I sent someone a game I did in GM, and that sort of message appeared)

Your problem is your GFX card dosen't support some of the features Retro is using, namely those of surface render-targets.

Yes as Infinitus said above (beat me to it) It seems there isn't a lot I can do at this time.  To try and fix it would be to try and take away one of the many graphical effects that make the game great, motion blur.  If you would still really like to try GridBlast and don't have another computer to try it on please ask and I may be able to put together a special version for you.

OK, I'll try using another computer.

EDIT: I played it, it's a good game. It is quite simple, but has nice effects.

Thanks, it's supposed to be simple, but fun.  Like a next gen minesweeper idea. ;)

Hey there is a secret song/sound in this game, a cookie to who can find it ;)

My first hint will come in a few days if nobody finds it. ;)
