Zelda Fan Game Central Chat Room
Tutorial - Step 3: Some basic commands
IRC Scripting can be a complicated business. Most of the code isn't
necessary to know to be able to chat. Here are some basic commands
that are worth remembering. These commands can be typed in any
screen...it doesn't really matter, but never hold down the
Control-button, it'll just post the lines into the chat, instead of
executing the commands.
| Accessing and leaving:
/join
Type "/join #zfgc" to join #zfgc, for example. If you
want to check out other well-visited channels on the server, try
#zelda and #gaming.
/quit
This will cancel the connection between you and our chatserver.
You can't communicate with anyone anymore. If you write a
message after this command, like "/quit bye", others
will be able to see that.
/part
If you type this, you'll leave the channel you type this
in.
|
| Commands concerning your
nickname:
/nick
Type this if you want to change your nickname. Typing "/nick
chatuser543" will change your name into chatuser543. Don't
use this to impersonate, you'll be subject to punishment.
/ns register
In order to prevent other people from 'stealing' your nickname,
we strongly encourage you to register your nickname. You'll have
to type "/ns register" followed by a password you want
to use and your emailaddress (in case you lose your password).
This could be valid use of the "/ns register"-command:
"/ns register chatuser543 beanie50560 chatuser543@chatmail.com".
/ns identify
If you registered your nickname and you want to use this,
you'll need to identify, otherwise...your nickname will be
changed to Guest<random numbers> within 60 seconds. just
type "/ns identify <password you used with the /ns
register-command>".
/ns ghost
This is for when someone else is using your nickname. Using this
command will shut his connection with the chatserver down so you
can use your own nickname again. Type: "/ns ghost
<password you used with the /ns register-command>"
and the problem should get solved immediately.
|
| Some other commands:
/clear
This command is very simple; all it does is removing all
spoken lines from the window you typed this in.
/time
If you type "/time <name of other user>", you'll
see what the current time is over there. We're a global
community, remember? :P /ignore
In case someone's pissing you off or just plain spamming you,
can decide to ignore that person. All lines spoken by the
ignored person won't be showed on your screen. Type '/ignore
<user>' to ignore someone, type '/ignore -r' to clear your
entire ignore list and type '/unignore <user>' ro remove someone
in particular from your ignorelist. /whois
When you want the check what channels someone is on, how
many hours he's online, or what ISP he is using; you can use the
whois-command by typing "/whois <users>". This
only works for users who are currently online. If the user is
offline, use /whowas. |
